Wilkinson – The Key to England’s Success?

It has been announced that English rugby hero, Johnny Wilkinson, its to make his comeback to International test rugby.
Wilkinson has not played for England since the 2003 World Cup, where he clinched the win over Australia with his famous drop goal.
England have not had a good run in recent months and will surely be hoping Wilkinson can have a similar impact as he did during the Woodward years.

Wilkinson is confident over his return where he will face Scotland on Saturday. “I’m not one to doubt myself. I’m not a brash individual but I’d not be here if I didn’t believe I was ready,” he said.
“I’ve added a few more skills to my bow. With age I have gained a greater level of composure and I see things and play the game more simply.”

The Six Nations favourites – coping with the pressure?

Well long gone are the days when the men in green were the underdogs fighting for the wooden spoon. In 2007 Ireland have been tagged as the favourites for the tournament, with a confident captain believing they can live up to the expectations.

The Irish team have continued to improve year on year since 2002/2003 however their ability to cope with the pressure has never enabled to win a major championship. Ireland finished runners up to England in 2003, in 2004 they claimed the triple crown however Ireland were one of the favourites in 2005 but lost to France at home and again to Wales who clinched the grand slam. In 2006 the team managed to improve on their performance and receive the triple crown is 2007 the year for Irish rugby?

Jerry Flannery added to Irish squad

Jerry Flannery has been named as one of three hookers to be named in the Ireland squad for their opener against Wales. Flannery missed the autumn internationals due to injury but has been back playing for Munster in recent weeks.

Flannery will join two other hookers in the squad, experienced veteran Frankie Sheahan and Ulster man Rory Best.

Williams to miss Welsh opener

Wales wing Shane Williams will miss his countries first Six Nations clash against Ireland due to a hip injury. Williams injured his hip during an Ospreys match against sale.
Wales have asked Gavin Henson to play full back for his next club appearance suggesting that Gareth Thomas and Kevin Morgan could slip into the wing positions.

Chris Paterson to Captain Scotland

Chris Paterson will captain Scotland in this years Six Nations, due to the absence of Jason White. Paterson has captained the national team on two previous occasions and according to head coach Frank Haddedn “ Chris did a very good job in the autumn tests when he stepped up to lead the site.”

Jason White suffered a knee injury in the autumn test against Romania and is currently continuing his rehabilitation program, but there is uncertainty if White will be fit in time for any games of this Six Nations.

Colin Charvis returns for Wales

The unmistakeable Colin Charvis will make his return to international rugby this Six Nations. The former captain will take place his place in a 33-man Six Nations squad.

Charivs is currently playing some of the best rugby of his carer for the Dragons and will bring a vast amount of experience to the squad.

Wales will play Ireland in their first game of the Six Nations at a packed Millennium Stadium on Sunday 4th February.

Ireland’s Shane Horgan to miss Six Nations?

Ireland’s winger Shane Horgan could miss the start of the Six Nations with a knee injury. The Irish and Leinster player picked up the injury last night in a Heineken cup game against Gloucester, Horgan was carried off the pitch and now looks doubtful for Ireland’s first game against Wales on Sunday 4^th February.

More information on the injury is expected soon.

Ireland have announced their thirty five man squad, who start this years tournament as the favourites.
